PRENATAL CLASSES – OBSTETRICAL PART
The first obstetrical session includes:
An introduction to the course, terminology of pregnancy and childbirth
physical and emotional changes during pregnancy
nutrition, diet and supplements, optimal weight gain
system of prenatal care in the Czech Republic
theory: three stages of labor: dilatation, pushing, placental stage
onset of labor and when to call your doctor / when to go to hospital (contractions, bleeding, rupture of membranes – ROM, PROM))
first, second and third stage of labor in practice (video)
during the break:
15 – 20 minutes: refreshments & PREGNANCY GYM
The second obstetrical session includes:
induction of labor, premature labor vs. postdatism (prolonged pregnancy)
labor positioning and pain relief (natural - physical methods, pethidine, epidural analgesia)
role of your partner or a chosen companion when things are in process
discussion of all types of delivery: forceps, ventoux, caesarean section,
caesarean section: elective/secondary (emergency) & indications for CS
analgetic/anestetic options during operative birth
future Daddy in the operating room: yes / no (or something inbetween)
recovery after vaginal birth and CS, ICU,stay, proper nutrition
early start of breastfeeding – a few tricks
how long to stay in hospital: discharge policies in the CR
during the break:

The third obstetrical session includes:
Obstetrical controversies
what is common in a Czech hospital vs. what is really necessary (enema, shaving), fetal monitoring (EFM) in pregnancy and during labor (discomfort versus benefit) arteficial rupture of membranes (AROM)
Practical considerations
home part of the labor: natural pain relief, positioning, water, warmth, gym ball, breathing and relaxation
and what about the Daddy at the very beginning?

PRENATAL CLASSES – PEDIATRIC PART
The first pediatric session includes:
the first minute of life – the baby in the delivery room (Apgar test, baby´s first feeding)
together in the hospital – rooming-in, first stool, umbilical stump care, weightloss, pacifier use, jaundice
premature babies
your newborn baby at home (bathing, burping, diapering, dressing, lifting and carrying)
vitamin supply & vaccination schedule
during the break:
15 – 20 minutes: refreshments & PREGNANCY GYM /BREATHING TRAINING
The second pediatric lesson includes:
feeding your baby – getting started
why to breast – feed
care for your breasts (breastmassage)
position, how to avoid pain and sore nipples

The third pediatric session includes:
CARDIO-PULMONAL RESUSCITATION (CPR)
infant CPR – preparing for an emergency, practical guidelines
PEDIATRICAL CONTROVERSIES (FAQ)
Initial major weight loss : is supplementary feeding necessary
(other mother´s pasterized milk vs. formula)
treatment of the stem of the umbilical cord (cutting vs. leaving in site)
TBC vaccination
